Stanford men golfers move into fourth at NCAAs

For the second consecutive day, the Stanford men's golf team shot the low round of the day and jumped into fourth place at the NCAA championships in West Lafayette, Ind., on the par 72 Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on Friday.

Scoring is incomplete as play was suspended due to lightning in the area, but it appears the Cardinal will remain fourth with an overall score of 893, five strokes behind leader UCLA and two behind co-second place USC and Clemson. (More...)

Stanford's golfers eighth in NCAAs

The sixth-ranked Stanford men's golf team stands eighth after two rounds of the NCAA Golf Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Cardinal, the defending national champions, moved up from a tie from 12th after the first round by shooting even-par 288 in Thursday's second round at Purdue University. With one round left to qualify for Saturday's final round, the Cardinal is cumulatively 21 over par with a total of 597, eight strokes back of leader Clemson. Stanford In Four-Way Tie For 12th After One Round Of Play At NCAA Championships

STANFORD, Calif. - The sixth-ranked Stanford men's golf team completed the first round of the 2008 NCAA Championships today at the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the Purdue University campus. The Cardinal are in a four-way tie for 12th place with No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 42 Middle Tennesse, and second-ranked Alabama.

The afternoon session's tee times were delayed 30 minutes today, but it didn't seem to affect the Cardinal, as it barreled out of the gates to the top-spot on the leaderboard, a place they held for most of the front-nine. ( More...)

Cardinal Head Back To The NCAA Championships

The sixth-ranked Stanford men's golf team is gearing up for the 2008 NCAA Men's Golf Championships that will begin Wednesday,May 28 and run though Saturday, May 31 at Purdue University's par-72, 7,431-yard Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. The Cardinal are the current defending champions and will be looking to bring home their ninth NCAA Championship.

For the team title, five golfers from each team will play each day, with the top-four scores counting toward the team total for the round. A total of four rounds will be played to determine the national champion. All 30 teams will compete in the first three rounds, but only the top 15 teams will play in the fourth and final round. The six individual golfers will play in all four rounds for a chance at the individual title. Practice rounds will be held on May 26 and 27 and the first round of action begins with tee times (determined by seeding) starting at 7 a.m. ET on Wednesday, May 28. Thursday's tee times will also be determined by seeding, while Friday's tee times will be based on the 36-hole score for each team. (More...)

Stanford tries to repeat as NCAA men's golf champion

It's easy to see, even at a glance, that the Stanford men's golf team hasn't had nearly as good a season as it did during its seven-win 2006-2007 season. Yet this week, the Cardinal finds itself exactly where it wants to be - playing for a second straight national title.

Stanford finished sixth in last week's NCAA West Regionals in Bremerton, Wash., after shooting a final-round 3-under-par 285, to advance to next week's championship tournament in Indiana. (More...)

Golf tees off at West Regionals

The No. 11 Stanford men’s golf team will return to the NCAA Championships this year to defend its title after taking the sixth-place spot in the NCAA West Regional Tournament this weekend in Bremerton, Wash.

The Cardinal shot a 14-over par, 878 overall, and had its best showing in the final round, posting a three-under 285 on the day which secured the team’s NCAA berth. (More... )

3 Stanford golfers lead US Open Qualifiers

Four Stanford golfers advanced in US Open Qualifying, and three each led their respective local qualifiers for the US Open. The four qualifiers were Jordan Cox, Zack Miller, Joel Kribel and Brad Lanning.

Current sophomore, Jordan Cox, fired a 66 to lead all qualifiers at CordeValle GC in Martin, CA.

Zack Miller, All-American from last year's team, fired a 67 to tie for 1st amongst all qualifiers at Pasatiempo GC in Santa Cruz, CA. For more on Zack's play plus an update on his professional career on the Gateway Tour read this article in the Marin Independent Journal ---

Pac-10 honors 3 Stanford players

Three Stanford golfers were honored by the Pac-10 for this season's play. Freshman Sihwan Kim and senior Rob Grube earned first team All-Pac-10 honors and freshman Steve Ziegler was named honorable mention. In addition Sihwan Kim was named the Pac-10 freshman of the year in a season when there were a number of top freshmen. For complete information click here.
