Stanford competes in Los Cabos, Mexico against 14 other teams

LOS CABOS, Mexico – Highlighted by freshman Barclay Brown's second-place finish, Stanford Men's Golf placed sixth at the 2020 Cabo Collegiate. The Cardinal finished the tournament at 1-over, as No. 9 Arizona State won the event. The field consisted of 14 teams ranked inside the Top 50, with the Cardinal besting No. 25 Oklahoma State, No. 29 California, No. 30 LSU, No. 32 Ole Miss, No. 39 Houston, No. 42 Alabama, No. 47 Florida State and No. 50 Arkansas. All five teams who finished in front of the Cardinal are ranked inside the Top 20.
 
"It was another solid week by the guys," The Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said. "It was great to see Barclay (Brown) have a really nice week and lead us individually. The conditions were very tough on the back nine yesterday, as well as today, and our guys hung in there with some of the top teams in the country. We've made a lot of progress the last six weeks and we're excited to get back out there again in our match against Illinois (March 21) and then host The Goodwin (March 26-28)."
 
A week after finishing third at The Prestige Individual, Brown registered the best finish of his young career, tying for second. Brown shot even-par 71s in Sunday's first round and again in the final round Tuesday, sandwiched around a seven-under 64 on Monday.

Totaled five birdies and five bogeys on Tuesday … tied for sixth, playing the par 5s at 7-under during the tournament … tied for the seventh-best score on par 3s, playing them at even-par … played the par 4s at even par … tallied 13 birdies to go along with an eagle.

Had four birdies against five bogeys in the final round … played the par 5s at 6-under during the tournament … tallied 36 pars and nine birdies on the week.
 
36. Daulet Tuleubayev +3 (68-69-79=216)
Had two birdies but finished with an 8-over 79 … finished the tournament with 32 pars and 11 birdies to go along with an eagle.
 
T37. Henry Shimp +4 (75-69-73=216)
Had three birdies against five bogeys … played the par 5s at 3-under and the par 3s at just 1-over during the week … tallied 32 pars and 10 birdies this week.
 
T77. Ashwin Arasu +25 (83-77-78=238)
Had two birdies to highlight his final round.
 
The Cardinal now breaks for final exams before a dual versus Illinois on Saturday, March 21, in southern California. Stanford then hosts The Goodwin, March 26-28, at Stanford Golf Course.

SECOND ROUND RESULTS: story by GoStanford.com
LOS CABOS, Mexico – Stanford Men's Golf moved up seven spots on Monday at the Cabo Collegiate, shooting a 14-under 270. The 14-under was tied for the eighth-best round to par in school history and was the third-best round in tournament history. It was also the best round in the field on Monday by four strokes.
 
Stanford is now tied for fourth (-9) heading into the final day of action on Tuesday, just six strokes off Arizona's lead.
 
A week after shooting a seven-under 65 at The Prestige Individual, freshman Barclay Brown fired a seven-under 64 on Tuesday on Cabo del Sol Ocean Course. The 64 was tied for the 11th-best round in school history and the second-best round in tournament history. Brown is now tied for the individual lead with Baylor's Johnny Keefer and Arizona's Trevor Werbylo heading into the final round on Tuesday.

Stanford hosts the Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta with 8 players entered

FINAL RESULTS:
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Led by sophomore Daulet Tuleubayev's career-best finish of tied for sixth, Stanford Men's Golf finished eighth at The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab. The Cardinal edged out ranked opponents such as LSU, Northwestern and Arkansas en route to shooting a 2-under 850 on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West. The Cardinal posted a 5-under 279 on Wednesday.
 
"I was happy with how the guys battled all week," The Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said. "We improved every round. The Norman Course was a great test of golf and for us to have a few guys towards the top of the leaderboard is a positive step."
 
Tuleubayev was steady all week, as all three rounds were under par. He shot a first- and third-round 69 with a second round at 1-under 70. He bested his previous best finish of tied for seventh at the Pac-12 Championship last season.
 
"The individual tournament also provided some great experience for Barclay, Ashwin and David to get some quality reps on a challenging course," Ray continued. It was fun to see them have a chance to win."
 

As a team, Stanford played the par 3s at 1-over, the second-best score in the field. The Cardinal's 177 pars were tied for second-most in the field.

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Stanford Men's Golf moved up to ninth as Henry Shimp and Daulet Tuleubayev both sit inside the Top 10 at The Prestige presented by Charles Schwab. Shimp and Ethan Ng led the way on Tuesday with matching 3-under 68s, while Tuleubayev fired a 1-under 70.

Over at Coral Mountain Golf Club, Barclay Brown posted a 7-under 65 at The Prestige Individual Tournament. Brown's 65 was tied for the 22nd-best score in program history.

Three golfers tied for team honors with 1-under 71s on Saturday in the final round, as seniors Henry Shimp and David Snyder, along with sophomore Ethan Ng, tied that mark. Daulet Tuleubayev's 4-under 212 marked the best score for Stanford throughout the tournament.

Started on No. 10 and was 2-over on his first nine holes of the day … was 3-under on his second nine of the day, with three birdies in a five-hole stretch.

Stanford returns to action in Southern California

FINAL RESULTS:
Stanford Men's Golf opened its spring schedule with a fifth-place finish at The Southwestern Invitational. The Cardinal fired a 3-under 285 on Tuesday to finish with a 12-over 876 for the tournament. Pepperdine, hosting the tournament and playing on their home course of North Ranch Country Club, won the event going away with a 14-under 850.
 
Two Cardinal each posted their first career Top-10 finishes, as sophomores Ethan Ng (T6, -1) and Freddie Lee (T9, E) paced Stanford throughout the week.
 
"I thought our guys played a lot of solid golf throughout the week," The Knowles Family Director of Men's Golf Conrad Ray said following the conclusion of the event. "We hurt ourselves with too many careless bogeys from easy positions and some three putts on the greens, but overall it was a good way to open up the New Year. Pepperdine on their home course is a tough equation, but it was good to see what they have and what we can expect from a bunch of good teams in the field. Now our attention turns to Hawaii in a few weeks."
 
As a team, Stanford finished second in the field with 153 pars, was fifth with 48 birdies and also had two eagles.

Fired a second-straight, three-under 69 to finish, tying his career low round … first career Top-10 finish … had four birdies and an eagle on the round … took advantage of the par 5s, playing them at 7-under over the two-day event.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The second round of play was suspended on Monday evening at North Ranch Country Club, with the Cardinal currently in sixth place at The Southwestern Invitational. All five of the Cardinal's competing golfers finished the second round, but individual Ashwin Arasu did not. Of the 12-team field, Stanford was one of just six teams to finish the second round. The second round will conclude on Tuesday morning, followed by the third and final round.

Shot a two-under 70 with four birdies in the first round … added three birdies in the second round, but also had two doubles and a triple for a 76 … currently sits tied for 14th.

Shot 77 in the first round with six bogeys to just one birdie … rebounded to shoot three-under 69 in the second round to climb into the top 15.

BACKGROUND
- Stanford returns to action to begin its spring portion of the schedule on Monday and Tuesday at the Southwestern Invitational hosted by Pepperdine. 


The field consists of Arizona State, Augusta, BYU, California, LSU, North Texas, Pepperdine, San Jose State, UC Davis, UCLA and USC.

The Cardinal will take six players: Freddie Lee at No. 1, followed by Daulet Tuleubayev, Ethan Ng, Barclay Brown and Henry Shimp. Ashwin Arasu will play as an individual.

The tournament will be held at North Ranch Country Club and will consist of 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes on Tuesday.
